Replacing your roof is a major investment in your home. While shingle color, price, and appearance are important, homeowners should also understand the warranty protecting their new roofing system.
Apollo Roofing is an Owens Corning® Platinum Preferred Contractor, the highest contractor level within the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network. This status allows us to provide Houston-area homeowners with access to Owens Corning warranty options that are not available through every roofing contractor. Apollo Roofing’s current Platinum Preferred status is also listed through Owens Corning’s official contractor directory.
An Owens Corning shingle warranty is designed primarily to protect homeowners against qualifying manufacturing defects. The exact coverage depends on the shingle product, roofing system, property type, installation, and warranty selected.
It is important to understand that a roofing project can involve two different types of protection:
A manufacturer’s warranty provides coverage when an eligible Owens Corning roofing product has a qualifying manufacturing defect.
Coverage periods vary by shingle. Owens Corning offers limited lifetime coverage on several architectural and specialty shingle products when installed on qualifying single-family detached homes. “Limited lifetime” generally means coverage lasts as long as the original homeowner owns the property, subject to the warranty’s conditions, exclusions, and prorated periods.
A workmanship warranty addresses certain installation-related problems rather than defects in the shingles themselves.
Standard shingle warranties do not always include contractor workmanship. Owens Corning’s enhanced roofing system warranties may include qualifying workmanship coverage when the roof is installed by an authorized contractor and all warranty requirements are met.
This distinction matters because even a properly manufactured shingle can experience problems when it is installed incorrectly.
Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractors are the top tier of the company’s contractor network. Owens Corning states that these contractors must meet standards related to professionalism, reliability, business practices, licensing, insurance, and installation quality.
Platinum Preferred status is not available to every roofer. Contractors must be invited into the program and maintain the requirements established by Owens Corning.
For homeowners, this provides another level of contractor screening before the roofing project begins.
As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, Apollo Roofing can offer warranty options that a contractor outside the network cannot provide.
The Owens Corning Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty is available exclusively through designated Platinum Preferred Contractors. Owens Corning’s current roofing specifications state that this warranty may provide extended non-prorated TRU PROtection® coverage on qualifying Owens Corning roofing system products and coverage for qualifying workmanship defects. The applicable coverage period depends on the shingle and roofing system installed.
This means homeowners may receive protection for more than the shingles alone. Depending on the selected system and warranty, eligible Owens Corning components can be included as part of the covered roofing system.
A roofing system includes several components that work together to manage water, airflow, and weather exposure. Depending on the property and selected system, these components may include:
Using compatible products and following the manufacturer’s installation requirements can affect warranty eligibility.
For example, Owens Corning’s current System Protection warranty requires qualifying shingles and accessories, installation over an approved and ventilated roof deck, compliance with published installation instructions, and registration within the required period.
Apollo Roofing reviews these requirements with homeowners and documents the roofing system installed on the property.
TRU PROtection® is the initial non-prorated portion of an eligible Owens Corning warranty.
During the applicable TRU PROtection period, qualifying manufacturing-defect coverage may include the reasonable cost of eligible replacement materials, tear-off, disposal, and installation labor, subject to the specific warranty’s terms.
After the TRU PROtection period ends, some warranties enter a prorated period. During that time, the amount provided for a qualifying claim may be reduced based on the roof’s age.
The length of the TRU PROtection period depends on the shingle product and warranty selected. Homeowners should review the actual warranty certificate rather than relying only on the word “lifetime.”
A manufacturer’s shingle warranty is not the same as homeowners insurance.
Roof damage caused by hail, falling objects, severe weather, structural movement, inadequate ventilation, or winds exceeding the product’s rated limit may be excluded from manufacturing-defect coverage. Owens Corning’s current warranty documents contain specific exclusions for hail, storms, installation conditions, ventilation problems, and non-Owens Corning roofing components.
Houston homeowners should continue to maintain adequate homeowners insurance for storm-related roof damage.
Some Owens Corning warranties may be transferred to a subsequent property owner, but deadlines, fees, and reduced coverage may apply.
Transferability depends on the warranty, shingle, property type, and when ownership changes. Homeowners planning to sell should keep their contract, invoice, warranty certificate, installation date, and roofing product information.
A transferable roof warranty may provide useful documentation to a future buyer, but the transfer must be completed according to Owens Corning’s current requirements.
Before beginning a roof replacement, ask your contractor:
Apollo Roofing can explain the available warranty options before installation so you understand what is included with your roofing system.
A roofing warranty is only one part of a roof replacement. Product selection, roof-deck preparation, ventilation, flashing, installation, and documentation can all affect the performance of your roof.
As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, Apollo Roofing follows Owens Corning installation requirements and can offer eligible homeowners access to Owens Corning’s Platinum Protection warranty options.
